O'Brien County is in far Northwest Iowa. It is named for William Smith O'Brien, a leader for Irish independence.
The seat is Primghar, while the largest city is Sheldon. Main highways through the county include US-18, US-59, IA-10 and IA-60.
It borders Osceola, Clay, Cherokee and Sioux Counties.
